Giveaway #3: Your Happy Place

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED, but come back in the morning for a new one!

We're celebrating all of you hard-working moms with a giveaway from "This Thing Called Family" EVERY DAY this week!

SEVEN giveaways!  One winner every day!

Today's giveaway is this house sculpture that celebrates home as your happy place!

Here are some words about home from Connie, Mama Winger:
"Home.  Your house.  Where you keep your family safe and happy.  I had a home once with 3 beautiful daughters and a loving husband. Suddenly it was taken from my life with the unexpected death of my husband.  I lived with one of my daughters for a while until I remarried.  Now I live in a small mobile home with a man who I love and he loves me - we've made it our home.  Not the home I had planned in my head at this age, not the girls' home to come back to for holidays, etc., not the home that appreciates in value. no.  But I am happy here because I have chosen to be grateful for what I have and because my husband loves to give money away to those who need it worse than we do. Wherever I am with my hubs, my kids and grandkids is my happy place. A home will not look the same for everyone - some are large and grand while others are small and sit on wheels!  But you are very blessed if your home is a happy one."  -Connie

  1. My happy place is wherever my daughter's and I happen to be together.Just recently I was shocked by my husband who left me for another woman and filed for divorce.this left me and the girls in a house that used to be a home, or so it felt. I've realized that the place u live doesnt matter its those that u r with that do. our happy is where ever our together happens.nd it doesnt matter of it is in our house, the car or at the park. 2. My happy place with the family is where my husband and three kids can be together with me - especially during a snow day, when we are all snuggled up around a cozy fire, after eating a yummy meal. My happy place with The Lord is when I get up early each morning, spend time praying and reading His word....that time starts my day off right! :)

  3. My happy place is my bed, It is very soft and I have a lot of pain and this helps to control it, so I am happy whenever I can lay in my bed.

  4. My husband and my happy place is Lake Dillon in Colorado. It's a gorgeous lake in between Keystone and Breckenridge, and I love to walk around it or just sit and stare at the lake with the mountains in the background.

  5. I have three happy places:

-- Wrapped snuggly in my husband's strong arms, with my forehead nuzzled into his warm neck. Feels like home.

-- Wrapped snuggly in either my son's or my daughter's arms, in the midst of what we call a "monkey hug," in which the cuddly child, facing me, wraps their legs around my hips and their arms around my shoulders and buries their sweet little face in my neck, like a monkey clinging to a tree. When they were toddlers, I could stand up while enjoying monkey hugs. Now that they're 6 and 9, I usually have to sit down to receive them! But monkey hugs are among the best things in life.

-- Worshipping my Lord with all my soul in the midst of moving praise and worship music, whether it be at church, at a concert, or in my living room, with eyes closed, hands raised, and heart connected to my Creator. Feels like what we were made to do. A glimpse of our eternal home.

  7. My happy place is and always has been around the kitchen table. This is our gathering place for many years, many occasions, many discussions, many dinners, many first's, many last's, many visitors, many of many - our kitchen is really big enough for two - small round 4 chair table, but raised 3 children around it and there has always been a place around the table for many. This is our happy, comfortable, love me place - always has been and always will be.

  8. Cuddling with my son. He's full of joy, innocence, laughter, dirt, love... all the things little boys are made of. I'm an older mom and so glad God blessed me with him. He's my happy place.

  10. I've read "A house is made with walls and beams...a home is made with love and dreams." You can live in a house but if there's no love within it's just a house. When love is the foundation a house becomes a home...a welcoming dwelling where all who enter are safe because the peace of God abides there. My home is my happy place; a place of quiet solace I share with family and friends. It's most alive when filled with the laughter and presence of family and friends especially my grandchildren who help me to continue to appreciate the blessings of...home!

  12. How ironic that this is today's giveaway :) We've been joking with our kids a lot lately (two first-graders who both happen to be adopted) about our happy places. My husband announces almost weekly that he is going to his happy place, which is the local hardware store, and the kids say, "Nooooooooo, not again!" And I claim that my happy place is the local craft/housewares store. But we always end the conversation by admitting that our true happy place is at home or anywhere that we're together as a family.

  13. My happy place IS home, but some times, I don't get the me time I need, so my happy place is also my office, where I craft and write and read and just use overall forms of self-expression. It is sometimes necessary.

  14. Our happy place is when we are all under one roof (our log home) and enjoying laughing and spending time together. Because our older daughter is married, it's usually a special time, like a birthday or other celebration. But, there's nothing like coming home to a peaceful place that's comfortable & quiet. I love to hear my kids say they just want to go home. :) We host a small group once a week as well, and so our "happy place" is extended to others on a regular basis. We enjoy sharing our humble abode that God has filled with His love and grace. kistihuffman@hotmail.com

  15. My happy place is where my husband and my two boys are, hugs and kisses are shared. That place is anywhere we are together. My favorite moment is when my boys are hugging me and don't want to let go. I just love that. figueroa.cynthia@gmail.com

  16. My happy place is each time we go to the park as a family. It is amazing to see how much my 2 year old has grown over time. Things he couldn't do or had trouble doing then, he is a master of now. And watching him grown and learning what he is capable of makes me feel complete bliss.

  17. I'm not going to lie - my happy place is after the boys have gone to bed; sitting on our reclining sofa downstairs, wrapped in my Snuggie, watching some DVR'd show that I've been looking forward to. Oh, and I'd be eating ice cream too. There's always ice cream in my happy place!

  22. My happy place is in my heart in remembering my mother. She was warm hearted and loving. She loved my 2 brothers and me unconditionly. Our lives were filled with love, fun and surprises. She was a wonderful grandmother to my brother's children. I was never able to have children, but if I had been blessed I would have been able to share some wonderful experiences with them.

  36. My happy place is our "new" downsized, post business-failing home. It is a place we are continuing to unwind in as we find boxes that were stored in the move and as we unpack beloved treasures of familiarity that we missed for the six to eight months of difficult transition. It is the "new" place, but with much distinctive belongings from the old to make us feel at home again. It is a place where my family can share cozy times together, eating yummy foods, relaxing, doing school, reading, movies, crafts or chatting. It is the place we share fun times with family coming home. Having seven kids with only two teens left at home, and the others grown and some of them married with large families, can make this little house bulge at the seams and rock with laughter. It is the place I can delight everyone's senses with scents and pictures (many of them hand stitched or painted by the kids) and pretty book shelves and nostalgic and scriptural wall sayings, and music to fit any mood, if we choose to hear something other than the constant bird songs going on just outside the windows. It is a place with inviting cottage type garden beds inviting me to come play in the dirt and plant a splash of color or culinary delight. It is a place my family and I look forward to getting back to when we have to leave. It is the place we look back and know God led us to, even though we drug our heals during the painful process of necessarily selling the other.

  43. I almost didn't comment because today has been a struggle to find a happy place. My kids are healthy, and I have a home that's cozy, if cluttered. We have food, and good jobs, but none of that is working today. I plan to spend the evening quilting my broken heart... so I guess that crafting is my happy place. It's at least fixable when nothing else is.

  44. My happy place is in my husband's arms - most specifically with his right arm around me and my head against his chest. It's even happier when I can hear my two little girls giggling and telling made-up knock-knock jokes and feel one of our Black Labs pressing against my leg and the other trying to stand between us to get in on the snuggling. It's moments like this, and embraces like this where I feel the most loved and most content. nmgebel@hotmail.com
