We're celebrating all of you hard-working moms with a giveaway from "This Thing Called Family" EVERY DAY this week!
SEVEN giveaways! One winner every day until Mother's Day!
Today's giveaway is this piece of wall art, designed by Green Girl Laura, from our new mom rules:
From Laura:
"This is a classic! Lucky for me, my children speak fluent "sarcasm". It's all they know, really. I'm a stickler for teethbrushing. They are all at an independent age, but I still hover with fists clenched ready to jump in there and take over if need be. This is a great piece that encourages one of those chores that a lot of kids don't particularly enjoy doing, in a humorous way. A little bit of laughing can start your day off right!" -Laura
TO ENTER:
*Tell us about a time when you chose humor to get through an unpleasant task with your kids, or if that doesn't apply, just say "Hi!"
*Feel free to share our giveaway via facebook, twitter or pinterest. If you're interested, you can find us here and here.
*One entry per person, please.
*Be sure to leave a way to contact you, or we'll have to choose a different winner!
*Winner will be chosen randomly by the random number generator.
*Winner will be chosen at 10pm TONIGHT!
*A new giveaway will start tomorrow! So come back in the morning!
If it's been an extra long and exhausting day, and my 2 year old just throws a tantrum for no reason at all. I say you have fun with that, and walk away.

DeleteMy daughter gets nervous about going to school. The night before I sing her "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin. I know she secretly loves it!
ReplyDeleteNo kiddos here so I will just say hello! :) Love the artwork! Would love to give it to my sister in law as a gift!
ReplyDeleteI have three boys, so any kind of "fart" jokes gets us through a rough time!!

My nephew, age 3 hated to brush his teeth. I took him in the bathroom, took out my partial and showed him. He looked inside my mouth and said "where are they" I said I didn't brush and they fell out and aren't going to come back. He kept looking at the partial, then my mouth. He now willingly brushes his teeth.
ReplyDeletewe brush away "dirt buggies" - which makes the "chore" of brushing teeth more like a high speed chase, and thus appealing to my two young boys. love love love this piece! and well, just about everything else you all have. thanks for all the giveaways--this is fun! ReplyDeleteI use sarcasm a lot with my kids, but we couldn't think of any specifics.:( mnhmslmomatyahoodotcom
ReplyDeleteWe use humor a lot. I always say that's why my girls are so goofy. :)
ReplyDeleteWe use humor a lot- they are keeping tabs when I spill and it has become a huge joke in our house!

My kids have the greatest sense of humor. They are even learning sarcasm! We also blame a lot of things on the dog.

Not sure I've had any unpleasant tasks yet. Love the back-story to the sign :)
ReplyDeleteI love this sign! I get my three kids to brush their "cavity bugs" out of their teeth every morning and night, by tell them to brush the bugs, then spit the bugs out. They seems to love it! meganmadden21@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWhen the boys are very whiny I say to them, "I do NOT want to see either of you smile right now!" Of course, that makes them burst into smiles and forget (for at least a few seconds) why they were whining.
ReplyDeleteThis so cute! Thanks for the giveaway! sharoo1975@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteWhen my kids start to have a meltdown I'll begin saying something like, " now don't smile or laugh" & they will get a bit confused, but it distracts them from being upset and they are soon giggling again!

Sometimes when my 2 year old is having a tantrum or meltdown and he is just trying to prove that he is louder and more stubborn than me, I just start to be silly and tickle him and it probably annoys him- but I think I am funny. And wouldn't you know it, it distracts him from whatever he was pouting about haha.

When my five year-old complains about something trivial, I ask her what she's going to do about it and give her lots of silly options to choose from to show her how ridiculous she's being. nmgebel@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have made up a ton of short silly (& very simple) songs that go along with some of the less fun things we have to,do...like washing our bodies, brushing our teeth & hair, drying off...wiping our bottoms, etc...theya re silly and all basically have the same "beat" but the kids seem to enjoy them and tend to start singing along with me......"brush, brush, brush, brush, bruuuuush....brush. Brush. Brush, bush your teeth....." Goofy fun!

We use tons of humor. When they wake up in the a.m. we tease them that an owl flew in their mouth overnight and thought it was a toilet. Begging them to brysh. It works. Love this sign.
ReplyDeleteSometimes when we are having a particularly difficult day, I count to 3 and we all scream at the top of our lungs to try to get the frustration out. By the end of the screaming we are generally laughing.
ReplyDeleteI have 3 boys so tons of humor, begging, tears usually gets the job done. I really need this sign though. They are starting to lose their teeth so it would be super funny to them.
ReplyDeleteLove your work
Thanks
Anna
