I made a few books - which are so much fun, but a lot of work, each page requiring its own attention. To put together these 5 page books, you need 10 pages worth of art, so making 3 books, that turns into 30! My favorite is the star one:

Getting Ready....slowly.

Slowly, things are starting to come together at the Greengirl household. I know it will get done, but it's not pretty right now. I'd like to take a moment to thank my husband. I often lovingly call him "AROC" which stands for anal-retentive-obsessive-compulsive. He has a place for everything and is a very neat and tidy person. I'm sure he had no idea this was part of the 'package deal'. He must truly love me! He is overlooking the stacks and piles, the dried up modpodge on the counter and the overall messiness. Thanks Joe.

Sneak Peak

We are busy, busy getting ready for Riverssance this weekend in the Quad Cities. If you live anywhere near, we'd love it if you'd come out and say hi! It's at Lindsay Park - a beautiful, shaded park on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. There'll be over 100 artists, entertainment, kids activities, and good food!

We'll be there from 10-6 on Saturday, Sept 19
and 10-4 on Sunday, Sept 20!

Rise & Shine

So...Emily here...the littlest (but not so little) things with wings girl. I rarely have much to contribute to this blog...I don't make fun cutesy things...but I make music.
Just wanted to share a post I wrote on my blog about a new song by one of our worship leaders at my church in Austin.

One of our worship leaders, Andy Melvin, recently wrote a new song for the church. We sang it yesterday and I could really feel the Spirit move powerfully through the words of this song...challenging people to step up and be the hands and feet of Christ. Here are the words...

Last week Andy asked me to come over and learn the song...little did I know I showed up to "rehearse" at his recording studio and he had a mic and headphones all ready for me to RECORD! what?!
I listened to the song once and hammered out a bgv part and had it recorded in 45 minutes or so!
They attached the recording to the podcast of Matt's sermon (which you should definitely listen to) from yesterday. Check it out here. It's right under the sermon title "Powerful Witness of the Resurrection".
God is stirring up His church to get up and move. It's challenging and hard but SO good.

Homes of different sorts

"Home is where the hugs are." The frame is a stretcher frame covered in fabric and paper. I was pleased with this new experiment. It measures about 12 x 22. It was fun and I will probably try some more like this.
Here is a thrift store find birdcage! I funktified it. It's home to this little bird.

Hey! What the heck kind of bird are you anyway??? A pink dotted orange breasted purple winged blue tailed green bird!!! OK, that's what I thought!

My New Motto

My life right now seems to be filled with "moments" that are tempting me to question my sanity, ...or at least my competency as a mother. I've come to several conclusions after 3 recent fridge 'break-ins' by a two year old - 2 involving cartons of eggs being dripped up and down my carpeted hallway on 2 separate occasions, and another involving a double batch of unset red jello poured onto the floor (and underneath the fridge.) Just so you know, there is now a fridge safety strap installed on the door. And after getting smart and putting a cover on the knob to the garage door so this same boy can't get into the garage and then into the van and then open the garage door with the opener. And after getting that same 2 year old down from everywhere he's decided to climb - the counters, his bookshelf, his brother's top bunk, the top of the changing table. And after deciding to still eat the remains of a loaf of pumpkin bread (with chocolate chips) that our 100 lb dog had pulled off of the counter where it was cooling and eaten half of, (hey, don't look at me like that - I cut off the slobbery parts!), I'm slowly coming to this conclusion: ......I'm a slow learner. I've GOT to be more proactive about these things. Thank heavens my husband is, (...proactive, not a slow learner) or i'd still be cleaning up eggs everyday. But more importantly, I'm learning this: You can't always get mad, or you'll likely go insane. I wouldn't trade this life for anything. My kids are healthy, I have a husband who loves me, a house to live in, and most important a forgiving God who helps me (and my kiddos) through these "moments" - helping me to be thankful...even when it's messy.

Little Canvases

These little canvases were fun to do (especially since they were thrift store finds that once had some crude hand painted letters on them - we really ARE doing the world a favor ''by rescuing one bad piece of art at a time" as the Super Hero Green Girl would say). I loved altering various vintage images. I don't know why, but a lot of clouds are showing up in my work recently. Maybe it's that ever present yearning for heaven. My sweet little 4 year old niece said something recently about wishing she could touch the clouds so that she could grab some and make a sheep out of it. What new thing is showing up in your artwork and why?
